Permanent makeup or tattoo removal – Laser or Remover?

The article is inspired by unprecedented excitement around the low-quality tattoo and permanent makeup removal. In my practice, about half of the clients come with the negative experience.

People often ask me why permanent makeup is so expensive cosmetological procedure. My answer – the master bears tremendous responsibility for the result! After all, we are talking about what is vital for a woman – about her face! To make a high-quality permanent makeup, a good master improves her skills for a long time, constantly learn, explores modern techniques. Only through endless cultivation makeup technician can be confident in the results of her work!

I explain all this to those professionals who say “I will use a remover in case I screwed it up”. Dear masters! If you admit even the thought of a poor-quality result – do not undertake the procedure! There are no eraser, which will be able to fix your flaws in a second. It does not exist and it is unlikely to be invented!

We work on the skin, ang it is not paper. We must be 100% sure of the chosen shape, color, technique. It’s like a surgeon – you have no right to make a mistake! The same applies to the correction of someone else’s work. You need to learn to remove and overlap the permanent makeup as well.

Note: in this article we will focus on the CRC remover and the latest generation neodymium lasers. There are a lot of removers on the market and new ones appear every year. But many years of experience show us that there is nothing better than the classic methods, tested over the years. Regarding the CRC remover, there are indisputable advantages: it removes the whole range of pigments of any origin, contains non-aggressive acids, almost does not traumatize the skin and does not cause long-term healing with the formation of terrible crusts. Again, customer safety comes first – the remover is certified and manufactured in the USA.

Lasers also differ, and neodymium ones represent the last generation. They are very efficient and extremely thrifty to the skin. So we will compare a neodymium laser with a CRC remover. Well, now let’s go directly to the topic of the paper. I suggest you read the comparison table to start with.

But, if everything was so clear, there is no problem in removing the tattoo. But the process is complicated by numerous nuances.

I often hear that a neodymium laser removes poorly, makes burns, edemas, scars, and that the procedure is painful in principle. All this happens only when used incorrectly! If you are a master and you have similar difficulties – immediately sign up for training. If you are a client and you hear a similar warning or review – look for another master.

• Neodymium laser perfectly removes cool colors — black, blue, and violet. But the machine loses its effectiveness in removing yellow, green, white, beige and red pigment. And if we take into account that there are much more pigment for lips on the market than removers, it becomes clear why there are so many difficulties in removing permanent makeup of the lips. Therefore, it is better to remove eyebrow and eyelid permanent makeup with a laser, and lips – mostly with a remover.
• When the laser removes red and pink colors, the synthetic pigment instantly changes color to gray and loses its color intensity. You should not be afraid of this. After laser removal it is allowed to use decorative cosmetics, it is rather easy to “survive” this period. For example, customers after microblading come with pink-red eyebrows. A single laser removal procedure is enough to neutralize pink to gray. And after a month will become the time to decide what to do next: the blondes could remain with beautiful ashy eyebrows, brown-haired women need a little bit of warm pigment correction.
• Laser removal is the procedure to start with! If the client did not “block” the old makeup or tattoo with whitewash and he will have patience. On average, 2-3 procedures are required (once a month) and then everything will work out for you! I am pleased with the fact that just buy a remover in the store is quite difficult. Training centers sell them only after the course. And it is right! Neither the laser, nor remover not tolerate self-taught! Removing old permanent or tattoo has many many subtleties, not knowing which you can harm the client’s skin. And most importantly, the fastest and the most amazing results you can achieve by the alternation of using laser and remover!

Recently, customers began to fear removing procedure. Apparently because of the “horrors” generously described on the Internet. Some people want to delete only with a laser, others – only by remover, and the rest – nothing at all. The task of the master is not only to choose the right strategy and sequence of work, but also to calm the client, bring to him the features of the procedure, demonstrate the photos before and after procedure, after healing, show him your certificates, and so on. It is necessary to understand that the fear is not unreasonable and sometime is not easy to earn the trust of girls who have become owners of blue or red eyebrows!

Another point is the customer’s favorite question: “How many sessions will be needed?” Usually you can answer more or less definitely after first procedure and complete healing of the skin. All depends on the amount of pigment applied to the skin, it’s chemical composition, “age” of the tattoo, the depth to which the pigment was applied, the color and distribution of the pigment density in the skin, the trauma and scars of the skin.  There are no instant quick wins in cosmetology. So, pretty often you will need two, three or even 5 sessions. Therefore, you should explain to customers that they have to be patient
